less than pretty.
âYou wonât believe Jennaâs amazing news,â Kylie began. But this time, Jenna put her hand over her friendâs mouth.
âYes, itâs my news,â she reminded Kylie. âSo let me tell Lexi.â
âSheâs going on a cruise ship!â Sadie blurted out. âAnd it has like a dozen restaurants and a kidsâ club and a giant waterslide and three pools⦠Oh, and a magic show at night!â
Jenna threw her hands in the air. âI give up!â
âSorry, Jenna,â Sadie apologized. âIt just slipped out. But you can tell Delaney and Herbie at the PLC meeting after school.â Since Delaney attended another school and their advisor taught robotics all day, the club met once a week at 3:30 p.m. in the Blakely teachersâ lounge.
âOh, I kinda emailed them both just now,â Lexi said, holding up her phone. âSorry. I couldnât wait.â
Jenna shook her head. âI am surrounded by bocas grandes , big mouths! Remind me never to ask any of you to keep a secret.â
âAnd youâre such a great secret keeper?â Lexi teased her. âHow about the time I told you I had a crush on Jeremy Saperstone and you blabbed it all over the place.â
Jenna blushed. âOkay, fine. I might have told a few people.â
âMe!â Kylie said.
âAnd me,â Sadie added.
âAnd the entire fifth grade,â Lexi pointed out. âIâm just sayinâ.â

Delaney and Herbie were equally excited by Jennaâs announcementâeven if it came through Lexiâs email.
âCan you take me with you, please!â Delaney pleaded as she burst into the Blakely teachersâ lounge. âMaybe smuggle me on board in one of your suitcases?â
âA cruise ship that size has a very complicated computerized system,â Herbie added thoughtfully. âMaybe you should bring me along tooâin case of any glitches.â
Jenna shook her head. âSorry, guys. Leo only has eight ticketsâenough for him, my mom, my sisters and brothers, and our stepsister, Maggie.â
âNo problem,â Kylie reminded the club. âWeâre going to be very busy over break. Remember? We said weâre going to work on a new PLC website to show off our cupcake creations and drum up more business.â
Delaney scowled. âWell, Jennaâs break sounds like a lot more fun.â
Kylie opened her official cupcake club binder to an order labeled âMount Vernon Libraryâ and showed it to her friends. âAny ideas for this one?â
Lexi read the clientâs request carefully: âTwelve dozen cupcakes commemorating our forefatherâs influence on our great country.â
Delaneyâs eyes lit up. âHey, maybe we could make a life-size replica of the Lincoln Memorial out of cupcakes.â
âOh no,â Lexi exclaimed. âNot happening. I went to DC with my family a few years ago, and that Lincoln is almost a hundred feet tall!â
âThatâs taller than Sadie,â Jenna teased.
âNice idea, wrong president,â Kylie interrupted. âMount Vernon was George Washingtonâs home, and this is the libraryâs annual fund-raiser cocktail party.â
Lexi heaved a sigh of relief. âIn that case, I think we should bake something elegantâbut with presidential flair.â
âWhat do you think of when you think of George Washington?â Herbie asked them. âIâll admit American history was never my best subject.â
âMine neither,â Sadie said. âBut I do know he got in trouble as a kid for chopping down his fatherâs cherry tree. When his dad asked him if he did it, he said, âI cannot tell a lie!ââ
Delaney made a face. âOoh, busted! I bet he was grounded for a week.â
âHow did you ground a kid in the seventeen hundreds?â Kylie
