was intense and awesome—but we both know we can’t let it get in the way of what else we have to do… and, right now, there are some things I really need to do.”
J.R. looked at me curiously, perhaps suspiciously. “Okay,” he said with a breath of hesitation. “I don’t understand your abrupt change in mood… but I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt here.” He set down his container of food and put his fork in the sink.
“Really, it’s nothing bad,” I said. “Just whenever we came in here and started talking about things again, I was reminded that I had stuff I needed to do today… Time sensitive stuff.”
“Okay,” J.R. said again. He didn’t look too happy with what I’d said, but he accepted it and returned to the living room to gather his belongings.
“I’ll call you later,” he said, coming over to give me a kiss on my forehead. Believe it or not, I was still naked—though I didn’t feel vulnerable until that point.
“All right,” I said, ducking behind the door as he left. “I’ll talk to you then.”
I stood by the door for a moment and listened as J.R.’s feet beat down the hallway, then I made a beeline to my desk and grabbed my phone.
I need to see you , I swiped with my fingers. I’m coming over now.
I set down my phone, went into my bedroom, and tried to find the perfect outfit for my impromptu meeting with Tommy.
