assistant had programmed into her cell phone echoed through the room and Erin looked at the unfamiliar number, trying to decide if she should let it go to voicemail. At the last second she pressed the button and said hello.
    “Erin. It’s Danny.”
Just like that, a wave of desire rolled through her body.
“I was going to try to do this all via text but…I really wanted to talk to you. See how you were doing. I can’t freakin ’ wait to see you tonight.”
    “Me neither,” she replied.
“Have you been thinking about me all week? Letting your mind mull over all the possibilities of what could happen?”
His tone was low and husky and Erin closed her eyes, the loss of one sense heightening her hearing. She could hear a faint tap , tap , tap in the background and wondered where he was and what he was doing. Wondered if her voice could make him as hot as he had just made her. She stood and walked across her office to gently shut the door.
“I’ve thought about you. A lot,” she added in what she hoped was a seductive tone.
    “And what about the possibilities?”
“I-I don’t know what to expect,” she admitted, images of being sultry fleeing from her mind.
“Want me to enlighten you…just a little?”
    “Yes, please.”
She heard his little groan and gripped the phone tighter.
“Shit, babe. Did you practice that? Look it up on one of your research sites? Or was that submissive little phrase yours and yours alone?”
Erin remained still, letting the silence stretch.
“Here’s what to expect. A silver Town Car will pull up to your door at ten o’clock sharp. The driver’s name is Allen. Always confirm whose car you’re climbing into.”
Erin raised her gaze to the ceiling, offering up a silent yes, Dad .
“You’re to come out the front door—not through the garage at ground level. I want your hips rocking as you walk down those front steps. That little movement shifting your pussy from side to side underneath your dress. Those panties teasing your softness.”
Okay. Not so paternal after all. Thank god. “And I want you to remember that each step is going to bring you closer to me. To my fingers. My lips. My tongue. Oh, definitely my tongue. I plan to go down on you with more finesse than any earl. Or duke. Or fucking prince regent. What’s the proper historical term for the people who are going to be watching? Maybe participating if that’s what you’d like. Is it a court? I need to know, Erin. I want this to be perfect.”
    “I…it’s…I’m not—”
The muted sound of knocking reached her ears. How she heard it over the drumming of her heart, she wasn’t sure. But Danny’s curse signaled the interruption was on his end.
“Damn it to hell.” He raised his voice and ordered someone to go away. “Sorry. We’ll figure it out when you get to the club. Allen will escort you to the door and I’ll be there waiting. Then we’ll proceed to the arena.”
“Arena?” she asked, her breath catching on the word.
“Where else do people go when they want to be watched? It’ll be a tableaux of epic proportions, Erin. I’ll see you then.”
The connection went abruptly dead. The arena. Images of muscled, half-naked men, all of whom looked like Daniel, assailed Erin’s mind. She imagined him strolling toward her, a long strap of worn leather in one huge hand, and Erin felt a trail of wetness tease her folds.
A tableaux. Her heroine hadn’t seen this side of a strapping, so where the hell did that idea manifest? A wealth of personal proclivities had been making themselves known over the past few days.
Epic? There was very little doubt that that was exactly what the evening would be. Epic.

Daniel paced the length of the hallway, muscles tightened by an unfamiliar tension.
“Hey, Dan. If you’re going to keep that up, at least move to the other side of the rug so I have an even wear pattern.”
Larry Esson stepped into Daniel’s path, effectively halting his
