worried about them,” I
said. Although the FBI wanted to arrest me, they had no substantial evidence to
do so. Honey’s body hadn’t been found, while Rita was backing me up, saying I
was a victim, not a villain. Camila had verified her story, placing the blame
on Christo and the Padre , making it even harder for the FBI to arrest me.
If anything, the head agent was only persisting since he was furious over what
had happened to some of his men, which had nothing to do with me. Christo was
responsible for their deaths, and if Teodora hadn’t given a false address for
her cousin, they might’ve been able to save the blond agent. The Black Russian’s
sister had fallen in lust with the man while visiting her brother, and since
the Black Russian loved pleasing her, she ended up taking the agent home.
I continued talking to my aunty, “Also,
it’s not possible for me to live here permanently, Zia . Both myself and
Camila can’t stay in the same house as Bianca, and I only agreed to come after
Alessandro told me Bianca was away . ”
“She’s in Spain for a few weeks,
celebrating a cousin’s wedding.”
“Does that mean Ricardo’s away
too?”
“No, he couldn’t go; he’s too busy
with work. So, you’ll see him, along with Brando and all the others.”
I grimaced. “I don’t want to see Brando.”
“You have to. He lives here, plus I
have some news I want to share with the both of you.”
“About what?”
“I’ll tell you inside. Now, come,”
she said, ignoring Camila. I knew it was because my auntie hated the Donatelli.
But it didn’t matter; Camila was my partner, so my auntie needed to acknowledge
her.
I took a hold of Camila’s hand.
“I’d like to introduce you to my partner: Camila Donatelli.”
My auntie’s eyes moved to Camila.
She gave her a curt nod, although no smile graced her face. “ Salve ,
Camila.”
Camila smiled. “ Grazie for
allowing me to come with Jagger.”
“Jagger never told me you were
coming.”
“Oh,” Camila replied.
My auntie refocused on me. “Just be
aware, Jagger, that not everyone in the house will be so cordial to Camila. I’m
sure most of them will be polite, but one or two may be vocal about a Donatelli
being here. If any of them take issue, send them my way. I want you to feel as
comfortable as possible.” She touched my arm, giving me a smile. “Because I
will do anything to get you to stay.”
“ Grazie , Zia. ”
She nodded at me. “Now, let’s go
inside.”
We followed her in, heading across
the marble foyer and into the main lounge. My eyes went to the red carpeted
staircase as a blonde girl ascended it. She didn’t see me. She was too caught
up with talking to a younger girl, their conversation animated, the two
disagreeing on something. I stared at her, rather struck by her beauty.
Camila squeezed my hand. “Jagger,”
she gritted out.
I looked back at her. “What?”
She frowned at me. “If you don’t
know what , there’s a problem.”
“I don’t,” I said, confused.
“You were staring at that girl.”
“She’s beautiful, that’s all.”
“Just don’t do it again.”
I grunted at her. “Jealousy doesn’t
become you, Camila.”
“You were staring too long.”
I turned to face her fully, not
saying a word.
She frowned. “What are you doing?”
“Staring at you for longer, because
no woman can match your beauty.”
She smiled.
“Am I forgiven for being a callous
male?”
She nodded.
I kissed her forehead, then turned
to my auntie, who was watching us with curiosity. “So, what is it that you wanted
to tell me about?”
She patted the couch. “Wait until
Brando comes.”
