house.
“It’ll be okay,” he told me now, his voice gentle. “And if it isn’t, I’ll drop to the ground and stop running, but we aren’t going to have problems. We’re going to run together , Tip.”
I nodded. “Will you change first so I can pet you before I change ?”
“Of course. My wolf loves it when you pet him.”
Most shapeshifters go to all fours while human, before the change starts, but Nix is strong enough he transforms from human to wolf without having to bend over first. It’s fast, smooth, and flawless. It’s nothing short of magical, and I went to my knees as the wolf formed in front of me. He nuzzled my face and I ran my fingers through the fur on his head and down his neck to his shoulders.
After several long minutes of this, I pulled my sundress off, draped it over a nearby chair, and nuzzled him some more before I went to all fours and shifted with us touching.
The human brain is different than the deer brain. Yes, I know this goes without saying, but becoming the deer is more than a lack of thumbs and no verbal speech. The forest around you becomes more alive, the air more vibrant, and everything makes you want to run.
And yet, the deer nuzzled the wolf and knew she was safe.
I’d worried so much about the two of us running together and my deer going mental and crashing through the woods to escape the wolf at her heels.
And all of that worry wasn’t necessary, because Nix turned and took off through the woods, and I followed. I chased the wolf. No, I played with the wolf. Nix went up and down hills, over logs, through thickets, and I followed at high speed. We ran side-by-side through some clearings, and it was as if I could feel the pull of the moon on the wolf.
I’ve run in the woods during all phases of the moon, and I’d never felt it like I did this night. Somehow, I felt the change in gravity through Nix.
Nix has become my best friend. I have other friends, too. Being brought into the RTMC means you gain a whole family, and I’ve grown close to the other ol’ladies. Pixie and I are close, of course, and I’ve been with other women as well, but Nix is my shining star. We shoot together, we run together in human form, he helps me with martial arts. We cook together, we have the best sex ever , and now our animals were running together.
No matter what the future brought, I knew we’d be okay.
A deer and a wolf. If you’d told me this a year ago I’d have called you crazy. Now? It’s the story of my life, and I couldn’t be happier.
    The End

The Dragon King

    Prologue

    Aaron

S ophia is the most adorable two year old I’ve ever seen. Fluffy blonde hair, rosy chubby cheeks, and a laugh that makes my heart sore.
I turned to her father, the Swan King, and chose my words carefully. “Raul, you’re sure this is the best course of action? I know you’re still grieving over Angelique’s death, but can you truly prepare Sophia for a life of leading your people if you keep her a prisoner in your home her entire life?”
I could only get away with asking this question because I’d helped raise and train Raul, helped prepare him to take the crown when he beat his brothers and won the throne.
“I did my best to protect my wife from supernaturals, and a damned human hunter took her out. Sophia won’t leave the walls of the castle until she marries, and hopefully whoever wins her will follow my lead and also keep her behind protective walls. She won’t see the same fate as Angelique.” His voice was firm, didn’t waver, and let me know further conversation on the matter would be met with hostility.
Sophia is the first Swan Princess without at least one brother since before I was born, and by my best guess I’m around nine thousand years old. Give or take a thousand.
Swan Princesses are usually given to other royalty as a way to unite families and sometimes species, but they never have a hope of the throne. Their brothers are required to fight
