head to one side like a curious dog.
“Well? You gonna go, or d'you need me to kick start your ass with my foot?”
Norm visualised a thousand gory deaths for Buck as he walked down the lecture hall steps, sighing huffily as he looked at his ruined notes. At least Buck hadn't seen his boob-doodle, or it might've been him crumpled up in the corner.
He turned back in time to see Buck sweep his books onto the floor, giving him room to lift Shawnee onto the desk. She wrapped her legs around him as he snuffled at her neck like a shark trying to eat a peach. Her skirt rode up, revealing most of her tanned, smooth thighs.
Buck was whispering something in her ear. She squeaked in mock horror, slapping at his biceps.
“I've told you before Buck, I'm not sucking anything!”
Norm's eyes goggled at her frankness, and at the thought of her mouth around Buck's tool – or even his own. Buck probably had a tiny pecker, to match his brain. His was a good size, and Shawnee had a beautiful, pouty mouth...
Buck noticed him watching them. “Enjoying the show, y'little perv?”
“Leave him alone, Buck. He's harmless.” Shawnee gave a smile which could almost have been sympathetic.
“I'll say he is. You gonna help my girl pass this class, right Norrrrm ?”
    “Sure,” he replied quietly.
“ Surrrre,” Buck whined, aping Norms' nasal tone. “You'd better be sure, book-fucker, or else me and my boys are gonna pound you into taco meat.”
He grinned at Shawnee. “See, 'cause taco meat is in all those small pieces.”
She patted his head. “I get it, babe. But we're not going to pass anything like this.”
Buck looked confused for a moment, before realising what she meant. He placed her back in her seat, leaning close to kiss her again.
Norm was relieved to see Professor Simmons return to the room at that moment. He pointed up at the mess Buck had made of his books.
She looked furious as she yelled up at Buck. “Hey! You're not in this class!”
Buck slid free from Shawnee's grasp, a petulant smile on his face. “I'm on a free period, Prof.” He bounded down the steps, feigning a punch as he reached Norm, making him flinch. “Study break.”
“Well, go study something other than Shawnee, hmm?”
Good advice , Norm thought as he went back to his desk – though he failed to heed it for the rest of the class.

As he walked to the bus stop, Norm realised that Shawnee's lack of understanding for their subject was going to hold them back. How could she not understand something as simple as the hypothalamus? Reacting to stimuli was such an easy concept to demonstrate, yet every time he tried she stared blankly through him. He wasn't a miracle worker.
Her failure seemed as inevitable as his encounter with Buck, who slammed into him as he crossed the quad.
Buck's shark-like grin filled his vision as the jock pulled him clean off his feet. His breath stank of cheap liquor and cigarettes as he spoke. How could Shawnee stand having that clamped over her mouth? He wished he could get his breath mints from his bag. He'd have to stuff them up his nose to ward off this rank odour. The thought made him smile. That was a mistake.
“Shawnee told me you were the one got me kicked out. You think that's funny? Teacher's pet, ain'tcha Norrrm? ”
Norm's anger flared, but he kept his mouth shut. Why would Shawnee do that? He was trying to help her, and she turns her pig-headed boyfriend on him? For what?
“I'm talking to you!” Buck shook him like a dog with a chew toy.
    “No,” Norm said.
Buck put him down. “Well then! I guess we're good here my man. On you go.”
Norm straightened himself up, checking the straps on his satchel before seeing the bus pull away from the stop. Perfect .
With a sigh, he started to walk past Buck, who stuck out a foot. Norm's bag went flying, as did he, across the grass and into the mud. The impact shook his glasses from his face, and he scrabbled blindly for them as Buck
