of here.â
We were still examining the lock when an argument broke out amongst our parents.
âThis doesnât change anything! Benâs a zombie and itâs our job to bring him in!â Mr Knight was saying.
âWHAT?!â yelled Mum. âYou canât arrest our son!â
âWe wonât be arresting him. You donât arrest zombies!â said Mr Knight.
âWhat would you do with him, then?â asked Dad.
âWe would detain him indefinitely â in a secure medical facility.â
âLock him up in a military hospital?!â cried Mum.
âBut . . .â I couldnât believe it. âI just rescued you!â
âWe wouldâve escaped anyway,â said Mr Knight flatly.
Dad looked furious. âIf you try and take my son away . . .â
At that moment, there was a noise outside sick bay. Was the headmaster back? Every eye swung nervously to the door as the little hatch was thrown open and a face appeared.
âHello?!â It was Miss Bumble, the librarian.
Everybody started shouting at once.
âCan you open it?â
âLet us out!â
âIs there a key in the lock?â
âWAIT!â I yelled, pushing my way to the front and peering through the window at Miss Bumble. âWhen we get out of here, the Knights aregoing to send me away. Theyâre saying that all zombies should be locked up in a medical laboratory.â
Miss Bumble gazed around at our faces. âTheyâre not going to take me away though, are they, Ben? Or Mr Slender?â
We were stunned into silence. Mr Slender was a zombie now too? How had that happened?
Miss Bumble nodded slowly. âThe headmaster found him before I did. I guess he figured that if there was a zombie wandering around the school, there would be less chance of anyone escaping.â
âNom! Nom! Nom!â said Mr Slenderâs voice from somewhere behind Miss Bumble. âNom! Nom! Nom! â

The Knights decided that between Nurse Nellie and Mr Slender, they had enough zombies to deal with. They agreed to leave me and Miss Bumble alone if we promised never to attack anyone.
âIf he hasnât done that already, he isnât going to,â said Mum crossly when she heard this.
âItâs OK, I promise,â I said quickly. I didnât want any more arguments!
Miss Bumble unlocked the door. I slipped out first and shot Mr Slender a couple of times with the Zombie Blaster so we could all get past him safely. I dragged him into sick bay and slammed the door, bolting it behind me.
âYou looked like you enjoyed that a bit too much,â said Mum, carefully taking the Blaster from me as we headed down the corridor.
âIt hurt me more than it hurt him,â I lied. âAnyway, he sounds like heâs already recovered.â
Sure enough, his voice echoed after us.
âNom! Nom! Nom! Oh, no! Not the thermometer! Anything but that . . .â
âThings would be a lot worse without Nellie the Nurse!â came the echoing reply.
âNurse Nellie mustâve escaped from the handcuffs.â I smiled. âSheâll love living in a medical facility, especially if sheâs got a new patient.â
We rounded a corner and their voices grew fainter. âWeâll contact HAZMAT and they can send a team to collect them,â Mrs Knight said.
Mr Knight nodded. He looked pleased. âI donât think anyoneâs brought in two live zombies at the same time before!â
Sophie and I walked in front, just in case Mr Bill â a.k.a. the Master, a.k.a. the Lurker â reappeared.
âIâm proud of you,â Mum told me, as we headed downstairs toward the front door of Seabrook High. âYou saved us all.â
âSo you believe that Iâm a zombie now?â I asked, switching between normal and infrared vision so my eyes flashed red.
âStop it! Donât do that!â Mum yelped. âWell, it
