doesnât matter. I can go by myselfâ¦â Her voice trailed off.
âIt does sound fun,â said Sophie. âRocking about in a boat indoors. Crazy! And it is just around the corner from here. Okay!â She smiled. âIâm up for it as long as you promise not to mention Flynn or my pots.â
Ellie laughed. âDone!â
Francesca thought it was a good idea for Ellie to go and watch the music video being filmed.
âYou might get another article out of it,â she said. âAnd at the very least itâll be an interesting experience for you. And itâs perfect that Sophie is going to go with you, otherwise I might be a bit concerned. But youâll be fine with her.â
The day of the video filming both Ellie and Sophie felt as if they were escaping, as they left the building soon after three oâclock. There was only one slight downer. Ellie had Ferdinand in tow. Angel had spotted Ellie changing her shoes in the lobby as she came back from a meeting.
âAre you coming in or going out?â she had said, pausing at the door.
âUmâ¦going out,â said Ellie.
âWell you seem to have forgotten my dog,â said Angel. âHurry up and fetch him. Iâve got someone coming in this afternoon who doesnât like dogs, so donât bring him back before five.â
âWhat could I do?â said Ellie to Sophie as they walked down the street. âI couldnât say no. Not to Angel. I thought Piano was going to take him out for his walk, but of course sheâd disappeared somewhere, just at that moment.â
âThat sounds typical Piano behaviour,â Sophie laughed. âBut it doesnât matter. Heâs no trouble, is he? And he seems quite pleased to be out.â
âThatâs true.â
In fact Ferdinand was looking very happy indeed. Unusually he was being taken in the opposite direction to the park; it was a new adventure for him and he totally perked up. He trotted along with his head held high, as if he was in a dog show. It made Ellie giggle to see him high-stepping his way along the street.
It didnât take too long to walk to the huge exhibition centre. Unfortunately, at the entrance there was a sign saying No Animals . Ellie was crestfallen. âIf only Angel hadnât caught me!â she said, but Sophie yanked her past the entrance.
âDonât stop,â she muttered. âCome over here.â
Ellie joined her at the corner of the building. âWhat are you doing?â she said. âLook, I canât go in, but you can. Hereâs your ticket. Itâs so annoying. Iâll miss the filming! But it canât be helped. Iâll go to the park now. I canât take Ferdinand back yet, Angel would kill me!â
âDonât be such a wimp,â said Sophie. âItâs getting on towards the end of the day. The people on the door arenât going to be taking much notice. Didnât you say that when you first saw Ferdinand under Angelâs arm you thought he was some sort of hairy handbag? Why not carry him round? Theyâll never notice.â
Ellie spluttered with laughter. âWe canât do that!â she said. âWhat if they did notice? And donât they check everyoneâs bags at the door?â
âWell they wonât be able to look in this one,â said Sophie, starting to laugh too. âGo on. Just give it a try.â
They both looked down at Ferdinand, who gazed back at them, wagging his tail. âWellâ¦â Ellie bent down and picked him up, stifling a giggle.
âTuck him under your arm more,â said Sophie, looking at them critically. âHis feet are dangling down. Thatâs better.â She stood back with her hands on her hips. âThatâs fiâ Oh.â Ferdinand had raised his head and licked Ellieâs chin.
âItâs no good,â said Ellie, giggling in spite of her
