up on that offer.â
âMaybe you should,â he said. âWhat are you doing tomorrow?â
I bit my bottom lip, trying to keep from grinning. I couldnât believe Triple T was asking me out. I decided to play it cool.
âI already have plans,â I said, âbut why donât you catch me next week?â
âI can do that,â he agreed. âWhy donât you give me your phone number and Iâll call you so we can hook up.â
I rattled off my number and he pulled out his BlackBerry and punched it in. I could hear a phone ringing through his earpiece, and then I heard someone answer.
âHey, Jasmine. This is T. Iâll call you later,â Triple T said.
âWhat are you doing?â I asked in amazement.
He looked at me and winked. âThank you,â he said a few seconds later. âI just wanted to make sure you had given me your real number. I didnât want to have to track you down next week.â
I laughed.
âLook, I gotta get out of here, but it was really good meeting you. Iâll call you next week.â
âOkay,â I said.
âYo, who was that clown stepping to you?â Kyle asked as we drove home.
âBoy, for a guy who wants to be in music, you know absolutely nothing,â Loretta said from the backseat. âThat was Triple T.â
Kyle shrugged. âWhat did he want?â he asked.
âNothing that concerns you,â I said.
Kyle opened his mouth like he was about to say something, but Loretta cut him off.
âTriple T looks even better in person than he does on TV. You think heâll call me?â
Probably not, I thought, remembering his promise to call me. âGirl, who knows? You know how celebrities areâalways got something going on.â
âYeah, thatâs true,â she said. She pulled a flask from her purse and took a sip. âWant some?â
I looked at her in my rearview mirror like she was crazy. âNo, I donât want any. Whereâd you get that?â I asked.
âDonât worry about it,â she said, taking another sip. âThatâs just more for me.â
By the time I had dropped Kyle and Loretta off, I was exhausted. I pulled my car into the garage so I wouldnât have to unload my equipment, and I headed straight to my room, glad that the house was quiet. I was a bit surprised that Mama or Derrick hadnât waited up for me, but I was a little relieved, too. I lay in bed for what seemed like hours, replaying my meeting with Triple T. There was something about him that I really liked, and as I drifted off to sleep, I was hoping that he really liked me, too.
chapter 6
A lthough I knew Triple T would call me, it surprised me when my phone rang Monday morning.
âHello,â I said, still half-asleep.
âGood morning,â a male voice said.
âKyle, why are you calling me so early?â I complained.
âIs Kyle your man?â the voice asked.
All at once I was wide awake, and I realized that the person on the other end sounded nothing like Kyle. âWho is this?â I asked, already suspecting it was Triple T.
âOh, youâve forgotten me already?â he teased.
I wanted to laugh, but instead I said, âIf you donât tell me who this is right now, Iâm hanging up. I donât have time for games.â
He grew quiet for a second. âWell, excuse me,â he said. âItâs Terrence.â
âI donât know anyone named Terrence,â I said. By then I was grinning so hard my lips were almost touching my ears.
âOh, itâs like that?â he said. âGirl, this is Triple T.â
âOh, hey,â I said. I sat up in bed and glanced at the clock. It was only nine in the morning. âCan you at least pretend to be happy to hear from me?â he joked.
âBoy, you are so silly,â I said.
âSo what do you have up for the day?â he asked.
I shrugged,
