tough punch. You hit me in my heart, twice.”
“Only once, unless you want me to do it again.” Lindsey cocked her arm back, fist ready.
“Outside, over by the barn, you hit my heart then.” Trevor crossed an X over his heart. “You know, darlin’, when we kissed…you rocked my heart hard.”
“Wow, Lindsey, I’d say you got yourself a handful here,” Chance stated.
Lindsey gave Chance a stubborn look. “Don’t think I’d ever give you permission as my friend’s bodyguard. She needs a bodyguard for protection from you.” She pointed her finger at Chance. Trevor grabbed it and stuck it in his mouth. Lindsey yanked it out, laughing.
Chance looked up at Olivia and winked, mouthing, “my turn tonight.”
Chapter Nine
“Time for you and Lindsey to leave, buddy,” Chance said through telepathic pack-talk to Trevor. Chance noticed something obvious when the two of them walked in. Lindsey wore Trevor’s mark, the mark of his primal-mate. It was probably why Lindsey responded so quick and strong toward Trevor. He doubted Trevor even realized it, big-talking womanizer he made himself out to be. Chance grinned inside, another one bites the dust. Then wondered, what was the chance of two women in the same pack, so to speak, and two men in the same pack getting together at the same time? Too many “sames.”
“Hey, darlin’, it’s time to scoot. Can I follow you home?” Trevor draped his arm possessively around Lindsey’s waist and lifted her out of the chair as he stood. “We’ll catch up tomorrow. Call me if you need me tonight.” Trevor winked at Chance.
“Thanks for coming. I’ll call if anything merits it tonight,” Chance said.
“Chance is not staying,” Lindsey said, glaring at Olivia.
“Lindsey, we had this conversation earlier. Don’t force me to make a choice between my best friend and Chance.” Olivia walked over and hugged her friend. “Go, I’ll be fine. I’ll be more than fine.”
Lindsey gave Chance the “eye,” a repeat of the one he got from her earlier. She gave Olivia another hug. “I’ll be here first thing in the morning.”
“Night, Lindsey.” Olivia walked Lindsey and Trevor to the back door. Chance followed. The sun was sinking fast in the fall sky.
He’d made the call setting things up for Jasmine earlier. She should already be en route to Dr. Linden’s lab. He hoped tonight Olivia could relax and sleep after her rough day. She needed an uneventful, rogue-pack-free night.
A cellphone rang inside the house. Olivia ran to answer it. Chance stood by the outside door, ears pricked.
“Hi Lacey. I know I haven’t called in a report. It’s been rather busy here.” Chance heard Olivia walk farther inside and decided it was time for his run around the parameter. He jogged in human-form along the tree line, scanning, listening, scenting, and tasting the air. Nothing out of nature’s ordinary.
Olivia stood at a window on her back porch when he stepped back inside.
“Everything looks good out there.”
Olivia’s eyes still wandered across the back yard and barn.
“Don’t worry. Lindsey took care of the animals tonight. Let’s make this an inside evening.” Chance wanted Olivia, naked, wrapped in his arms, consummating their relationship, claiming his mate. Will she want to spend the rest of her life with me?
“Maybe now would be a good time for a shower. I do owe you a little something-something. Are you ready to collect?” Olivia sounded light, yet sultry. Her tongue slid between her lips, burning a trail inside Chance all the way to his cock.
Lindsey made it sound like Olivia swore off all men, most especially because of trust issues. His lies to her weighed heavy. He hurt her the worst way possible. She called him on those lies earlier, and he hadn’t admitted or denied anything. He thought of her tears after he pleasured her, which made him feel more like the beast he’d been tracking. If he wanted Olivia’s love, he needed to
