shining upon us as we make our way through the day.
Watch over your brothers and sisters who ride for you.
Keep us safe from harm as our wheels travel the ground.
Help us return safe and sound should any disaster come our way.
Guide us through the pearly gates of heaven should we ever join you, our fallen brother.
Stay true our brother, and guide us safely if we ever should have to join you.

We said in unison, as if we were a well-oiled machine.

Chapter 22

                 ~ Tic

It was very solemn as we made our way into the clubhouse followed by Jed and his club. No one was talking, laughing or communicating in the least. First things first I went in search of my little girl. I needed to hold her in my arms, needing both of my girls close to me. Findin’ Lil’ Bit readin’ or pretendin’ to read on the couch in the community room pulled my heart strings. She tries so hard to be big, wantin’ to do things she’s too little for. I wish she wasn’t in a hurry to grow up. I need her to be little for as long as possible.

I go to her and pick her up. Surprisin’ her a little if the giggle she lets out with a tiny squeal is any indication.

“Daddy! Your back home. I missed you, is Uncle King on his way to heaven now? He’s gonna make a perty angel to watch over me.”

I felt a tear leak from my eye as my beautiful girl says this to me. How do I respond without breakin’ down in front of my baby?

“Yes darlin’, your uncle has gone home now and will always be your guardian angel watchin’ over you. You’re a very lucky little girl to have someone as special as he was to guide you and protect you.”

“I knowa that daddy! Buts I gotta you and all my other Uncles too.”

“That you do, Baby, that you do.”

I walk to the buffet line to join my Angel here on earth with our daughter securely in my arms. I can’t put her down just yet. Kori recognizin’ this grabs me a plate as I grab one for our daughter. I go down the line lettin’ her tell me what she wants on her plate. My lil one sure knows what she will and won’t eat. Apparently, the only vegetable that doesn’t make her throw up is corn on the cob. I look at Kori and see her amusement, I’m thinkin’ the little shit just played me.

“Tic, you know that’s a load of shit, right?” Kori ask me.

Me bein’ me I give her my ‘no shit’ look. I may be new to the whole ‘Daddy thing’, but I wasn’t born yesterday. I look at my girl in my arms and she’s givin’ her momma the stink eye. I can’t help it. I laugh like I didn’t think was possible today. The guys look to see what coulda gotten me all stitched up like this, and they notice the stink eye, too. Next thing I know, there’s not a brother not bent over in tears of laughter. My baby girl single-handedly broke the tension in the room. We all finally started livin’ just a little ‘cause of this marvelous little girl. I even glance over Skylar and Kid’s way and notice they’ve also let go and are chucklin’ at her.

Thank God for little girls and their stink eyes at their mommas, this may just be what the doctor ordered for each one of us. Next thing I know we’re all sittin’ around the table tellin’ stories of King. Some are amazin’ and some not so much. But every single one of us shares our fondest memories. Whether it was him meetin’ us, savin’ us or tearin’ hide off one of our asses. This may turn out to be an okay day after all.

Chapter 23

~ Tic

The day went quickly after we ate. Jed said his peace over losin’ his lifelong best friend, as he left he decided he needed to take Sniper with him for a getaway. He said to expect our VP back in a few days. He promised to get a read on him and let us know where his head’s at. From what I experienced today watchin’ the man who’s next in line to run the club, I don’t feel he’ll be ready
