how.”
“You should have told me! The night you called me over here to show me the mark, to introduce me to my mate, you should have told me!” I admonished them both.
My uncle nodded his head respectfully.
“The wolf we’re talking about, isn’t just any wolf. He isn’t a run of the mill, work nine to five wolf. He’s the fucking King of the Packs. He’s their head Alpha. It’s Devin Richardson. She’s the mate of the main man!” I ran my hands through my hair tugging at it lightly.
“He’s just not going to let this go Uncle Henry. He wants her. Unlike Vampires who can have several mates in a lifetime, wolves get one shot, that’s it. One! Bliss is his one shot at happiness, at fulfillment and carrying on his line.” I paced to the other end of the room looking over at Bliss. She was watching me closely, absorbing all I was saying.
“He’s ready to have an all-out battle to the death to claim her. That’s their way after all. If one mate is born to two males, they either share her or fight to the death for her.”
“So share her,” Aunt Bethell said simply. All eyes turned to look at her in shock.
“What did you say?” Bliss asked, eyes wide, disbelief on her face.
Aunt Bethell took Bliss’ hands into her own aged ones. “Sweetheart, think about this. You were born to two mates of two species. Two powerful species. The two leaders of those species. None better could protect you. We don’t know who your parents were or why those wolves came after you all those years ago. We did the best we could to protect you. You need protection. No one protects better than a mate; in your case, two mates.”
Bliss was shaking her head. “You were against this. You lied to me. You made me hide the mark all these years because you were afraid. What’s changed?”
I wanted to know the answer to that question myself. What had suddenly changed their mind?
“As Micha just said. This wolf isn’t any old run of the mill wolf. He’s the leader, their Alpha. He’s strong, able to protect you.”
“No. No, I won’t be shared. I won’t be passed between two males like a favorite treat.” Bliss stood up and walked out of the room.
“You’ve lost your damn mind,” I said to my Aunt Bethell. “Did you really think she would go for that?”
“You are her mate and her King. If you decree it, then she must obey,” she said sternly.
I laughed. I couldn’t help myself. “Really? You think so, huh? You think it’s that simple? Do you think her personality suddenly changed since she’s been in my home? That woman doesn’t do anything if it doesn’t suit her to do so.” I shook my head as I walked to the bar. I needed a drink. Where the hell was that damn wolf? He was supposed to be here for this.

CHAPTER FIFTEEN

    Bliss

I walked the path down through the garden to my favorite spot, a large apple tree. I’d sit for hours in the summer and read on the bench beneath it. It would drive Mother and Father crazy because they hated me being out in the daylight. But, as I tried explaining to them, if I wouldn’t be able to be out in the sun after my transition, I wanted to absorb as much of it as I could now.
I sat, pulling my knees up to my chin. I felt the now familiar but different buzz run through my blood that told me Devin was near. I sighed. I turned my head to the left, resting my cheek on my knees and there he was, striding up to my bench, like he didn’t have a worry in the world. He reached out, running his thumb across my cheek, lightly, down to my lip where he lingered for a moment before pulling back.
“What are you doing here Devin?”
He sat, crossing one knee over the other. “I came to talk to your guardians. I should have been notified when that mark appeared on your skin.”
“They didn’t know it was your mark,” I defended them.
“No, but they knew the crescent was the sign of the Wolf. They should have contacted me to find out what pack had the sun mark.
