butterflies sailed up into the sky over the trees.
âTheyâre so pretty!â said Sister.
Â
On their way back, Suzy and Sister ran into Lizzy and their friends Anna and Millie. They were all carrying their Bearbie dolls.
âHiya, gang!â called Sister when she saw them. âSuzy and I were out catching butterflies. You should have seen the big yellow one I got!â
Â
âYeah, great,â said Lizzy. âWell, see you, I guess.â
âWait a minute,â said Sister. âWhere are you all going?â
âWeâre going over to my garage to play Bearbie dolls,â said Lizzy.
âCan Suzy and I come too?â asked Sister.
Â
âIt looks like you two are already pretty busy,â said Lizzy. âCome on, girls.â With that, Lizzy and her friends went on their way.
Â
âHow do you like that?â said Sister, hurt and angry. âWho does she think she is? Come on, Suzy, weâll play over at my house. Who needs them, anyway?â
When they got to the Bear familyâs tree house, Suzy and Sister found Brother Bear and Cousin Fred getting out their fishing tackle.
Â
âLizzy and your friends were here looking for you,â Brother said. âI told them you were playing with Suzy. Lizzy didnât seem very happy.â
âThat Lizzy Bruin!â said Sister, annoyed. âWhat business is it of hers who I play with?â
Â
âI guess sheâs jealous,â said Brother.
âJealous?â said Sister, puzzled.
âSure,â said Brother. âSheâs been your best friend for years. You mean a lot to her. Sheâs just worried that maybe you donât like her as much as you used to.â
âOh,â said Sister, âthatâs silly!â It was true that she liked her new friend, Suzy. But Lizzy would always be her best friend.
Â
âWhat should I do?â Sister wondered.
Cousin Fred spoke up. âYou know what the Bible says: âWounds from a friend can be trusted.ââ Fred liked to memorize things.
âHuh?â said both Sister and Brother. âWhat does that mean?â
Â
Suzy answeredâshe liked to memorize things too. âI think it means that when a friend who loves you hurts your feelings, you need to find out what is bothering her.â
âYes,â Fred nodded. âAnd the Bible also says that we shouldnât stay angry with our friends. God wants us to make up with them if we have an argument.â
âOh,â said Sister, thoughtfully.
Â
âI have an idea,â said Brother. âFred and I were about to go fishing. Why donât we grab some extra fishing gear and go over to Lizzyâs? We can see if they would all like to go fishing with us.â
âGreat!â said Sister. Suzy grinned.
So they all stopped by Lizzyâs garage on their way to the fishing hole.
Â
âHey, Lizzy!â called Sister. âDo you and Anna and Millie want to go fishing with us?â
Lizzy acted like she wasnât so sure. But Anna and Millie were all for it, and Lizzy certainly didnât want to be left out.
Soon, they were all down at the fishing hole. Lizzy cast her line out into the middle of the pond and got her line into a terrible tangle.
Â
âHere, let me help you, Lizzy,â said Sister, taking her fishing rod. âIâll untangle it for you.â
âWow, thanks!â said Lizzy. âYouâre a real friend, Sister.â
Â
âI always have been and I always will be!â said Sister, giving Lizzy a hug.
And together they picked away at the tangled fishing line.
