mystery. Iâve had this link with Alanna since her birth. Iâm positive this is the lifetime for us and yet the Fates ring them when sheâs a mere chit. What do they know we donât? Thereâs more at play here than can be seen and of course no oneâs talking.â
A voice spoke from the doorway to the studio. âYouâve felt the connection since my birth?â
Both men spun to find Alanna standing with her arms crossed over her chest, wild frizzy tendrils haloing her face. She was livid and it showed. âI was hoping you were long gone,â She wasnât pleased to see him, which didnât bode well for a harmonious relationship.
âIâm here to stay,â Gregori indicated the studio and bedroom. âI was hoping you would share your meager accommodations while Iâm here.â
Aden smothered a laugh with his hand.
Alanna was confused by Gregoriâs comment. âRight. Donât you have a home to go to?â
âThis is my home now.â
âYou canât just move in. I donât know you.â
âIâve lived in your courtyard for the past couple of years. This place is as good as any.â
âI thought you wanted out of here as soon as possible?â
âI want out of this predicament I find myself in. You are part of it.â
âMe?â Alanna practically squawked. âI didnât do anything. I fashioned the dragon. It was Marylebone who put you there. I donât know what for, or why and I donât care.â She held up a hand when Gregori would have spoken. âI donât want to know. Donât tell me.â
âWell, Iâll tell you why Iâm here instead,â Aden interrupted before things got out of hand. âIâm looking for a large piece of jade. Iâm going to craft a new dragon. You have a piece of jade thatâs suitable and donât tell me you donât. It spoke to me and itâs willing.â
Anger snapped in her eyes and he had to fight stepping backward out of Alannaâs line of fire before he recalled there was no magic to be wary of.
âIâm saving that piece for something special. Itâs for me.â
âItâs the only piece suitable to hold a large amount of magic. We need it to resemble Gregori as closely as possible.â
Alanna switched her attention to Gregori and her eyes rudely raked his body. Adenâs eyebrows rose.
Alannaâs lips curled with displeasure. âGood luck to you. Youâre not taking my piece of jade. Iâve given enough time to Gregori at this point, and Iâm done being his minder, caregiver or whatever you wish to call it. Heâs all yours. Find yourself another stone and get the hell out of my studio.â
Gregori laughed, a rollicking belly laugh. âWarlocksâ Dream, I love your fire, woman! Iâm going to enjoy living with you.â
Alanna let out a scream of frustration. Aden thought she was going to stomp her feet like a child but she held her ground and glared at them both.
They were wasting time and Aden knew he had work to do. âWe need that jade. Iâll find you another piece. I know theyâre hard to come by, but the one I replace it with will be that much better. Warlocksâ Oath.â
Aden tucked his hands into his jeans and rocked on his feet, his lips stretched into a grim smile as he spoke to Gregori. âThe Dragons of Marylebone are circling. Youâd better be successful, or youâll have all of Marylebone chasing your tail before the fortnightâs over. Iâm available to assist you in your hunt for the truth. Iâm sure Goran will help, once he forgives you for stealing his energy. But be warned. I wonât allow our past association to cloud my emotions if I have to hunt you down and forcibly remove your magic.â
Chapter Fourteen
Alanna was angry sheâd given in and relinquished her most coveted piece of jade.
