the day that he would be able to return. The vacation felt incomplete without him, and she knew that Warren felt the same way. They had set no particular time to return home, although Warren was totally recovered. Haley was as content as she could be without both of her men. She and Warren spent the days learning much of what there was to discover about one another that they didn’t already know, when they weren’t making love. Not that they didn’t argue and push one another. Haley doubted that would ever change totally, but she had always wanted to challenge and tease Warren. She knew he enjoyed it, too. They also made some important decisions together, although they wanted Gordon's input and final approval.
Gordon wasn’t able to return for another three weeks, and by then Haley was certain. She waited until dinner was over and the men were relaxing on the porch, the sun just beginning to set. She settled on a futon and took a breath.
“Gordon?” Haley watched his beloved face turn to her. He looked tired and older. She wondered how much her stupidity had contributed to that.
“Yes, little one?” Haley’s heart skipped at his endearment. He hadn’t called her that since that terrible day. She had been right to wait.
“We have something important to tell you,” she said and watched his eyes narrow and his shoulders stiffen, as if he anticipated a blow.
"Warren and I want to be married as soon as we can arrange something small and tasteful. We've been waiting for you to return so that we can discuss whether you want to have a private ceremony with just the three of us and some of the other club members as witnesses. Kind of like our anniversary celebration."
Haley was relieved to see Gordon relax and then smile and nod, although the shadow still remained in his eyes, so she hurried to continue. "I've decided to put my career on hold for a while, maybe just do some new restaurant consults and openings. Warren has assured me that with his contacts and yours, there will no lack of those opportunities and I'll be able to be home more.
"I find I have an entirely different perspective on life, Gordon, and I know where my place is, where I want to be."
Gordon again nodded, and Haley could see hope burgeon across his features. "I think you and Warren have planned things out well, little one. I am honoured to be your third, my friend."
Warren shook his head. "Not my third, Gordon. You must know that. We agreed previously that Haley would marry me, but that doesn't make you any less her husband."
    Gordon smiled but didn't respond.
Haley then took a deep breath and exhaled, the sound rivalling the lazy surf in the background. Warren, ever vigilant, sat up and stared at her. He might not be pleased that she hadn’t talked with him first, but what she had to share next was firstly between her and Gordon. He would just have to understand.
She took the plunge. “I’m pregnant, Gordon.”
Gordon’s face drained of colour, and a pulse ticked in his jaw. Then he was up and across the floor, pulling her into his arms without pause. He nearly crushed her as he held her against him, and she could feel his heart pounding.
    “When? How?” he choked out.
Haley smiled against his chest. “The usual way I expect, Gordon. You put your penis into my vagina and pumped your sperm into my womb where one of them met my egg. And voila! It probably happened the day you and Warren corrected my delusional thinking. I hadn’t taken my pills because you didn’t pack them for me while I was staying with Warren at the hospital. Not on purpose, I’m sure!”
Gordon growled in her ear at her snotty retort and then held her slightly away from him, his hands sliding up her arms to frame her face. He looked deeply into her eyes and then slanted a kiss across her lips, stealing her breath, and any historical issues between them simply dissolved at that moment. Haley felt forgiven, and she thought that any remaining insecurity Gordon
