honored.”
In the living room, the couches and chairs had been pushed
back to the walls, and the big rugs had magically disappeared.
Jackson pulled Rori close as the band played the song he’d
sung her on Valentine’s Day. They swayed and looked into each other’s eyes. His
heart gave a quick double-thud. “I’m so relieved that you went through with
this.”
She blinked at him and laughed. “I wouldn’t have missed it
for a million bucks.” She set her hand on his chest. “I love you, husband.”
His heart thudded a couple times. “I love you, wife.”
She looked around as people wandered in, standing back to
watch, smiles on every face. “This is all so lovely.” She whispered the words.
“But you know how anxious I am to try out that new bed.”
He groaned. Just being close to her, knowing they’d be
sharing their marriage bed soon, pumped a hot flood of lust down into his
groin. “I’ll ask your mom how soon it’s proper for us to sneak out.”
“Good plan.” Rori looked at her wedding ring again. “But
tell her we may not be able to wait that long.”
He laughed and spun her into a wild two-step, the band
caught on and doubled the tempo. People joined in, and cut in, wanting to dance
with the bride or groom, and it was two hours later when Jackson finally found
Rori again. “If we go now, we can see the moon rise over the lake.”
Rori nodded, grinning. “Yes, I’d love that.” They mingled
their way toward the kitchen, and when nobody was looking, ran for the back
door.
In the mud room, Killian and Lexi, Dylan and Zoe, and Rogue
and Kit stood talking. They quieted when the bride and groom entered.
“We saw you heading toward the exit, and wanted to wish you
all the best.” Lexi hugged Rori then Jackson, and Killian did the same.
“You two will be so happy together.” Zoe and Dylan joined in
the hugging, and Rogue stepped forward, holding Kit’s hand. “This is the
beginning of something wonderful for you two.” Rogue looked at his own bride.
“I’m a big fan of marriage, once more.” Kit laughed as she and Rogue hugged the
newlyweds.
Jackson helped Rori into her coat and set his new black cowboy
hat on his head as Killian pushed open the back door and gestured for everyone
to walk outside. What was he up to?
Jackson and Rori looked at each other, both shrugging. They
stepped out the door, and Rori gasped.

Chapter Nine
Outside the back door of Dusty’s house, a big, white, open
carriage sat trimmed in white lights, standing behind a beautiful team of
Appaloosas.
“Killian. Oh, man.” Jackson hadn’t expected anything this
elaborate a month ago when he’d asked his brother to drive him and Rori to their
house.
“Thank you.” Rori gave her brother-in-law another hug.
“They’re beautiful horses, and the carriage…it’s like we’re royalty.”
Killian dropped his head. “Welcome. It was time I put those
horses to good use.”
Jackson lifted Rori in his arms and set her in the carriage.
A man in livery and a tall hat held the horses steady until they were settled,
then climbed up and took the reins.
They called goodbye and their family gave some suggestions
for how to spend the evening, including playing poker, watching the basketball
game on TV, and ice fishing.
Jackson put his arm around Rori as the carriage thankfully
rolled out of earshot. “Any of those ideas sound like fun?”
She rested her head on his shoulder. “No. Not a one. But
once we’re alone…” She squeezed his thigh, her warmth seeping into his muscle
and making everything go a little naughty. “I’m sure I can make some better
suggestions.”
They watched the moon peek up above the horizon, and had the
driver take an extra lap around their house so they could see it in the
moonlight.
Finally alone at the front door, Jackson entered the code
and pushed open the door. He bent and scooped Rori into his arms. “Mrs.
Walker.”
She hung on, kissing his chin. “Mr. Walker.”
