appraisal of the new man in her life.
âThank you, Keith.â She batted her eyelashes. âYou donât look bad yourself.â
âWell, Iâve got it like that. The brothers and I have got to do this photo shoot for a billboard sign theyâre going to hang on Interstate 95. The Alphas are gonna have all the honeys coming to Central. But Iâve only got eyes for you, girl,â Keith said in a hurry. âThis photo shoot is about marketing the school. Gotta do my part.â
âHmmph. Tell me anything.â
âNikki, you have nothing to worry about. Iâm the luckiest guy on the campus, in the State of North Carolina, across the worldâ¦
âAll right, all right,â Afrika said, holding her hand up for Keith to stop. âI get it.â
âSo whereâs your twin?â
âYou mean Asia?â
âYou know Iâm talking about Asia. I swear your mommas must have used the same fertility clinic because you and Asia look so much alike.â
âOkay, Keith. This is where I draw the line. Yes, Asia and I have some similarities, but Iâm no test tube baby and Iâm nobodyâs twin. And the reference to my momma is out of line and off limits to you. I donât play that when it comes to my mother.â
âWhoa, whoa, whoa. Hey, baby, I didnât mean any disrespect. I wasnât trying to talk about nobodyâs momma. I was only talking about scienceâhow two people with two different sets of parents, with two different sets of genes can have some of the same, almost identical features. My momma used to say that everyone has a twin in this world.â Keith took Afrikaâs head and turned it toward him. âNow, donât I look like your boy, LeBron James?â
âYou wish.â Afrikaâs frown turned into a giggle. âYou wish you were as tall as LeBron. Now that man is fine.â Afrika giggled again.
âI know you arenât saying heâs finer than me.â
âYou are so conceited. But, Boo, you do look better than LeBron.â
âI knew it. I knew it.â
âKeith, you are so crazy. Look, Iâve got to get to my class. I donât want to be late.â
âWhat are you doing after class?â
âIâve got cheerleading practice.â
âAfter that?â
âIâm not sure. Asia talked about going to some pizza joint.â
âAsia needs a man. Sheâs pretty and all, but she doesnât have your personality.â Keith pecked Afrika on the lips. âJust because old man Christianson is her daddy, she thinks sheâs all that.â
âCome on, Keith. Be fair. Asia is nothing like her father. Sheâs cool and I like her. And if you like me, youâve got to like Asia. Anyway, sheâs got a manâ¦Deon, the Eaglesâ quarterback.â
âDeon? Heâll break her heart. I hear heâs been with a lot of women on campus.â
âHow would you know?â Afrika asked with a frown on her face.
âStuff like that is no secret. Look, my good friend, Zavion, is probably Asiaâs type. Heâs a junior at UNC-Chapel Hill, about six feet, and plays on UNCâs basketball team. Iâll talk to him. Maybe we can all get together before the Alpha party on Friday night.â
âI donât know if thatâs a good idea, Keith. Asia is a little high strung, and she may not take too kindly to us interfering in her personal life, and like I said, sheâs seeing someone.â
âTrue, but it doesnât have to be a date. Look, we donât even have to tell her that Zavion is coming. If everything works out, Iâll have Zavion meet us somewhere.â
âWhatever. Iâve got to go. Call me later.â
Keith gave Afrika a quick kiss on the lips and took another peek at her behind. Satisfied, he gave her a parting smile. âOkay, babe.âBefore Afrika was out of sight, Keith took out
