next twenty minutes or so. I honestly didnât know how much coke to do, so I just kept partaking.
I ended up doing too much.
âSo, like, the weirdest thing to me, Meg, is that, honestly, I think youâre kind of an awesome person. And Iâd like to think that you think Iâm awesome too?â
âNo, I, like, totally agree.â
âYou agree that youâre an awesome person or that Iâm an awesome person?â I lit a cigarette and inhaled. It tasted delicious.
âNo, bitch! I agree that youâre an awesome person and Iâm, like, so glad that we finally met each other.â
âOh, good, good. Me too. Do you want a drag?â I handed her the Marlboro Light.
Meg took a long drag and looked around the balcony, surveying the scene. Everyone had gone back in the house, so Meg and I shared the couch and the cigarette.
âI never wanted to be in a sorority,â I blurted out.
âI know, babe.â
âI still kind of donât.â
âI know, babe.â
âIs that bad to say?â
âNo, not at all. You think I donât fucking know that about you? Youâre different.â
âI know you didnât mean that as a compliment, but Iâmgonna take it as a compliment because I think thatâs actually, like, a really nice thing to say to someone.â
âBut sometimes we can see BZ qualities in a girl before she can see them in herself,â Meg said. âWe knew that we needed to continue the legacy and when we saw you and talked to you we just went in. We went in hard because we had to have you. Itâs actually really fucking simple.â
âAnd I really appreciate that you guys did that, and I totally get why, but honestly I donât know what to do.â
âObviously you donât know what to do. You just got to college, there are forty million decisions to be made. It can be overwhelming. Iâm overwhelmed by how overwhelming it must be for you.â
âExactly. You get it.â
âI do,â Meg said, putting out the cigarette.
âI cannot believe Iâm saying this, but Iâm so glad I met you guys. Like, literally, I donât know what Iâd do for friends if I hadnât come to that first party. Like, I want you guys to be my friends, you know.â I could hear myself speaking but I had no control over what I was saying. And I felt fantastic.
âDuh, I know. And let me tell you what will happen if you donât rush: Youâll eventually meet a fat friend, a half-Jewish/half-Asian friend, and youâll end up dating a guy named Topher who is too short for you.â
âNo, youâre probably right.â
âI know. You look hot tonight.â
âSo do you.â
âWe should probably go inside.â
âIâm down.â
We stood up, dusted off any couch crumbs that may have stuck to our dresses, tousled our hair, and stomped our way back into the party. We may have been fucked up, but I felt spectacular and told myself to try to remember this moment because it was one of the best nights at college yet. Possibly one of the best nights of my life. Period.

COLLEGE GIRLS ARE CONSTANTLY COMPLAINING ABOUT . . . EVERYTHING
âH onestly, Iâm kinda shocked youâre pledging BZ. I mean, itâs great, but Iâm still shocked, considering the look of disappointment on your face when I first told you I was in a fraternity.â
Jack and I were on our date. The one heâd convinced me to go on. Heâd picked me up in his car and took to me to Kawa Sushi, which, according to Meg, was the nicest place for a date in town.
âBelieve me.â I smiled. âNo one expected this less than me. But I like the girls and theyâre nice to me. They made all of the bullshit rushing stuff so easy. I figured I would just give it a try and see what happens. This is actually pretty ugly, the more I look at it,â I
