her apartment complex.
He parked the car, and they both got out. The others pulled up and joined her and Logan.
He reached for her hand to examine her wrist in the light from the lamp post.
“I’ll be fine,” she whispered, her voice cracking as she realized just how big of a man Logan was. Her small hand was lost in his much larger hand. His fingers lightly grazed the delicate flesh on her wrists and she felt the bruising. She attempted to pull away, but the others were near now, too, and she found herself moving closer to Logan.
Looking up into his dark brown eyes, he held her gaze as he brought her wrist to his lips and kissed her skin.
She closed her eyes, feeling that deep connection again and then his arm going around her waist, pulling her against his chest.
“Is she okay? Did he hurt her?” Sunny asked, sounding upset, and his voice frightened her. Instantly she pulled from Logan’s arms.
She held out her hand palm up. “My keys?”
Logan crossed his arms in front of his chest and leaned against the hood of her car as if he had control because he held her keys. The group of them surrounded her in a semicircle in front of her car.
“Keep them. I don’t care right now.” She attempted to leave but walked into Frankie. He pulled her against his chest and hugged her. She struggled just for a second then allowed him to hold her.

“I can smell his scent on her,” Frankie stated to his brothers.
“Just deal with it like I did for the fifteen minute ride over here,” Logan replied.
“I need to go. I’m exhausted and need some ice and some painkillers,” Melissa stated as she pulled away from Frankie. He held his arms around her waist and looked her in the eyes.
“We’re going to have to talk. It would be better if we come inside—”
“No! No, you can’t come inside. You need to leave. You can’t come in with me,” she stated then pulled away and clutched her jacket to her chest.
“What’s wrong? Why not?” Frankie asked.
“Because I have kids and my aunt lives there, too. My friend and her kids are there as well. I need to go. I really don’t want any trouble. I promise that I won’t say a word about tonight. Good-bye.” She swiftly began to run up the sidewalk.
“Wait, the keys, Melissa,” Logan stated, and she turned toward them.
“Throw them to me,” she said, and Logan hesitated then tossed her the keys. She caught them and hurriedly entered the front door to the building.

“She has fucking kids?” Vince asked, sounding shocked.
They were all silent.
“We have some work to do before we go see her tomorrow night at Charlie’s,” Logan said, and they all got into the SUVs.
“What about that piece of shit, Bret? We should pay the fucker a visit,” Vince said, shocking his brothers. He was the calm one out of all of them. He and Jake were levelheaded, and it took a lot to piss them off. Sunny and Frankie had the short fuses while Logan tried to maintain control and the peace.
“No. We need to focus on Melissa first. We have to find out her story and everything about her life and these kids she has. Was she married? Is the guy alive or dead?”
“Fuck, Logan. I’m feeling so out of sorts right now. How the hell can you be so organized?” Vince asked.
“I have to be. This situation could become out of control very quickly if not handled accordingly.”
Chapter 7
Melissa tiptoed her way into the apartment and found all the kids sleeping on sleeping bags and blankets in the living room. It was a good old-fashioned slumber party. Celine was on the couch watching over them, and Melissa smiled. They were all so innocent. They had no idea what kind of a messed-up, crazy world was out there. Now it appeared that men who could shift into wolves walked the earth as well. She got the chills, and then she thought of the brothers again. A SWAT team for the NYPD no less, and probably the most lethal force a human could reckon with.
She walked
