did.” Jericho rolled his eyes. “But now he’s after Rock and who knows who else, but you know, only the three of us can break the story.”
    “Veronica,” Bear said.
I frowned. “She don’t know shit about what we did with Donnie.”
“No, but she can bring your hot number, Lila, into it.” Bear frowned. “You want her involved?”
I didn’t want the Old Man knowing she existed let alone examining her up close.
“So we make this convincing. And when Veronica talks to the Old Man, she can’t say squat. He’ll only punish her if she admits she ran away, so she’ll stick with the story.” Jericho threw the stub of the cigarette to the gravel and stomped on it.
I spent two hours in the clubhouse as the Old Man maneuvered, trying to prove something was wrong with Donnie, but no one had seen him and no one would. In all his bluster and questions, he never once questioned me. I think I’m the one he feared the most, so I leaned back in my chair and smiled wide, downing a half bottle of Jack while the three of us talked about nothing.
The Old Man finally left the club at eleven thirty, heading down the lane to his and MJ’s house. What were the chances Red was up, let alone willing to have me for company?
“We’ll check up on Zayn and Rock, you go make amends to the gorgeous redhead without any furniture.” Bear raised that mocking brow. “If you can’t pay her enough to buy shit for her place, send her to me. She’d make bank on a webcam, wholesome face, sinful body.”
I clenched my fists and moved into his face. “You stay away.”
“For sure, bro, I’m not about poaching your manager.” He laughed, heading to his bike.
The fucker wasn’t done with this. I’d just have to hope Red wasn’t a fan of porn because Bear was right, she’d make bank working for him.
I sprayed gravel leaving the club with Bear’s words churning in my mind. I couldn’t say why the idea of her doing porn pissed me off, but it did. In fact, I was in a generally crap mood and should head home, but I turned in to town, unwilling to let the chance she’d be awake go by. Besides, I’d let her down once, I’d keep my word this time.
I parked in back and headed upstairs. I stood in front of her door wanting her so much, and that alone should send me off in the other direction, but I stepped forward and knocked. Nothing.
“Wait.” She opened the door. “Hey, I’m awake,” I heard from behind me.
I turned with a wide smile. “Red, thought you’d be asleep.” I walked into her apartment and scowled, remembering what Bear said, but I didn’t want to fight. If she was happy, then what did it matter what anyone thought.
“What smells so great?” I drew her to me.
“Supper.” She brushed a kiss against my chin. “I have leftovers.”
“I have a taste for you.”
She laughed and tugged me toward the bedroom.
“Really?” I eyed the air mattress she used as a bed, not sure it’d even hold both of us. It definitely didn’t lend itself to my favorite games—bondage games.
“It works, let’s see how well.” She tugged me down onto the bed beside her.
I rolled over, trapping her under me, sucking her lower lip while she ran fingers through my hair. I kissed down her neck loving the salty sweet taste of her skin. Moving to her ear, I nibbled the lobe and moved to the spot behind her ear, she gasped, and I smiled wide—one special spot located. I’d know her every turn-on soon, but I had a great start.
“We’re overdressed,” she whispered into my ear, then tugged the lobe with her teeth.
I chuckled and bussed her lips. “Undress for me.”
She looked away. In fact, everywhere but at me.
    “Please, baby,” I whispered.
Standing up, she tugged off her shirt, not with any flair, but I’d already seen this much when I’d done her artwork. She sucked in a breath and popped the latch on her bra, letting it fall to the floor. I loved her stomach and the naturally beautiful curve of her
