Taylor lay in bed, sweat drenching her auburn hair due to the summer heat. The distant sound of her clock ticking drilled into her mind, “Tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock.” Normally, the ticking of the clock was something she drowned out, much like the sound of her mom’s garbled voice asking her, “Why aren’t you married yet?” or the resonance of her third grade students’ groans whenever she gave them the slightest bit of homework. Unfortunately, she could not tune out the sound of the clock now because it reminded her with every passing second that it was near time for her visitor to appear.
Taylor rolled onto her side, checking the glowing red digital readout of her beside alarm clock. It was two o ’clock AM. Gavin, her visitor, would be in her bedroom any second. Ever since she had given him a key, he appeared seemingly out of nowhere at her bedside. As her heart raced, she squirmed as she felt her panties grow wet at the thought of his arrival. Two o’clock had been their time for the past year and a half, ever since she had met Gavin at a party. Gavin had a deep, dark secret that made it so he couldn’t go out during the day, and Taylor had a special fondness for the mysterious. Because of that, they made a good pair. Taylor let out a long, drawn-out sigh at the thought of their first meeting when she had gazed into Gavin’s blue-grey eyes for the first time.
“ That is a pretty happy sounding sigh,” said a low, grumbling voice.
Gavin, Taylor thought, shooting into the sitting position. Gavin stood to her right, gazing down at her with glowing eyes. Sometimes, his eyes were so bright they seemed like lanterns to her. They were bright enough she didn’t even need to flip on the light switch when she headed to the restroom at night. The sight of those eyes, so bright and glowing, made her exhale in relief as well as bliss as she peered into them. Gavin always swept all of the problems in the world away.
With a grin which showed off his shimmering white fangs, Gavin sat down on the rose colored bed and gazed at Taylor. She reached for him. His muscles were hard beneath her fingers, but his skin was artic cold. Taylor shivered, grateful it was summer. During the winter, it was hard to hold Gavin at night, like trying to cup an ice cube in her hands in the middle of a snowstorm. Gavin wrapped his arms around her, holding her close. She laid her head against his chest, hearing no heartbeat like she would have with an ordinary man. But she guessed that since Gavin was not an ordinary man, she could not expect ordinary things. She had long since come to terms with the fact she would never have kids scurrying up her front stoop or be an old lady walking down the sidewalk side-by-side with her equally aged spouse. But that was alright with her because in return she got Gavin. Gavin the vampire, but Gavin all the same.
Gavin ran his cold digits up the sides of her arms, then over her shoulders. This action drew her back to reality. The feel of his cool fingers dancing over her flesh made her shiver. Once his right hand reached her chin, he tilted her head back so he could peer into her eyes. As Taylor stared at Gavin and Gavin stared at her, she felt as though she was transcending into another world, a world far beyond the here and now in her small, rose colored bedroom. It was moments like this which made all she had to give up worth it.
Gavin, sensing her thoughts, leaned forward and pressed his cold lips to hers. Her own lips parted, and he slipped his tongue into her mouth and she tasted him for the first time. The flavor of Gavin was delicious. Sucking on Gavin ’s tongue was like sucking on a piece of frozen chocolate. It was sweet and subtle, but altogether tantalizing. Taylor groaned against Gavin’s mouth as he lowered her to the bed and lay fully on top of her. As Gavin’s chest pressed against her own, she shivered and smiled. Gavin pulled away, then ran his right hand over her hip. Somehow,
