fine either way. Help arrived in plenty of time. She was a sick but not at death’s doorstep.”
“Even so, I don’t know how you dealt with things like that on a daily basis. My adrenaline would have short-circuited my nerves within a week!” She wiped a hand over her face.
“You get used to it.” He took her hand, bringing her to her feet.
“No wonder you were such a grouch when you first got here.”
Zach had a bitter retort ready to jump out, but he found himself chuckling instead. “Yeah, I was pretty high strung and angry at a whole lot of things.” They walked up the stairs together.
“Understatement?” They stopped in front of her bedroom door, but Zach tugged on her hand, taking her to his room this time.
“Hey now, I wasn’t all that bad. You have to admit, you take some getting used to.” He laid on the bed and pulled her down on top of him with ease.
“Are you used to me yet?”
“Not even close.” She stuck her tongue at him and he laughed then kissed the tip of her nose. “But I’m enjoying the ride.”
She growled then said, “Right now I’d like to enjoy a ride of my own.”
Zach felt her reach down and unzip his pants, reach inside and withdraw his dick. She shed her bathrobe and nightshirt then raised herself up slightly so she could slide back down on his shaft.
Sam entwined her fingers with his, raising his arms over his head then pinning them against the bed. A deep groan traveled up and out of his throat. He felt her soft, plump ass as it slapped against his pelvis as she rode him faster and faster. This was not the slow, sensual lovemaking they shared in the exam room or the long, erotic sessions they had earlier in her room. Sam was in charge and she was an erotic dream. Her gaze tangled with his and the height of her passion nearly choked him.
He felt himself reaching a zenith but wanted her to have complete control so he resisted bucking his hips. “That’s it, baby,” he urged her on. “Just like that. I’m going to come.” At those words she ground her hips against him, moving them in a circular motion. He was buried to the hilt and it felt so damn good he thought his balls would explode. As he reached climax she gave him a soul-deep kiss that caused lights to burst inside his brain. For a second he wondered if he was having a stroke. He’d never had an orgasm that intense.
His body went limp and Sam rolled to her side, laying her head on his chest. His heart pumped out of control and he was almost certain it called out her name with every beat. In such a short amount of time how had this happened, especially when he’d been so careful? Then again, he had been dealing with an expert in soothing crying babies and toddlers throwing tantrums. Was it so hard to believe that she could soothe a man who had a crappy attitude and wounded ego?
Zach pushed Sam’s hair out of her face as she dozed. “I wish I could predict the future,” he murmured against her lips.
Sam smiled and opened her eyes. “Nah, that wouldn’t be any fun. I like being surprised.” She kissed him but Zach wasn’t into it. He rolled over onto his back looking up at the ceiling, watching the fan blades spin lazily as he ran the same unhurried circles over her lower back with his finger.
“Are you okay?” Sam snuggled close to him.
He shrugged. “I guess I like a little more stability in my life.” He wanted to see where things went with them and fully expected to make this thing long-term. Very long term.
“Stability is good, but you can’t have everything planned out step-by-step.” She rested her chin on her fist, her fist on his chest as she looked at him.
Zach ran his hand from her shoulder, down to her waist and rounded hip then back again. “I’ve wanted to talk to you about the lease.”
He heard her suck in a sharp breath and watched as she sat up, covering herself with the sheet. The woman was suddenly modest? The look on her face was one of wariness and hurt.
