I don’t think he wanted to face you, Prez.”
True moved so fast, Jinx didn’t even see him coming until he was in a chokehold. “You think, huh? You lusting after my pregnant baby sister? A brother’s ol’ lady and wife? You got shit for brains. I want to know about your new freaky. You brought Elsie here and you now want to see my sister? Maybe I ought to be pulling your patch.” He loosened his grip on Jinx’s throat. “I heard about you in jail, shit I haven’t spoken to my brothers about yet. I’m glad you stopped by, saved me the trip to find your traitor ass. Whistler, Raven, need your help here!” he yelled out.
He watched as Jinx’s face went white when Raven and Whistler emerged from the other room. True took a lot of pleasure in the fear that was evident on Jinx’s face.
“Yeah, it’s true that Raven has a cell down in his basement … and you’re headed right there. You are guilty until proven innocent, Jinx, and I’d say from what I heard, you’re gonna be one guilty motherfucker.”
Raven took great pleasure in punching Jinx in the face. And although he struggled, he was no match for the three men who threw him into the cell. Whistler didn’t allow him to have the luxuries Raven had, removing them from the cell.
They walked upstairs and Whistler rolled Jinx’s bike into the garage and tossed a tarp over it. He grabbed a beer before he sat down with True and Raven, then gave Raven a wide grin.
“Guess that solves the problem of you going back into the cell. Not sure what Morgana is gonna say, though.”
Raven looked at them both. “I’ll be glad to stay in the bedroom with her. What the hell did you hear about Jinx?”
The front door opened and in walked Morgana.
“Later. We’ve got to deal with my sister for now, but it ain’t good. Morgana might be able to give us some of the answers we’re seeking.” True’s grey eyes looked like steel and his voice was dangerously low. Whistler and Raven didn’t doubt the shit had just hit the fan.
Morgana looked very pale as she walked into the kitchen. Her arm was black and blue from the blood tests. She leaned against the counter as she looked at her brothers and husband.
“Isn’t he supposed to be in the cell?” she asked tensely.
True took a deep breath. “Morgana, sit down.”
“I don’t want to sit down.”
“We had to use the cell. We got us a rat. How did it go at the doctor’s appointment?”
“I want to know why the cell is in use,” she persisted, “and what I’m supposed to do with Raven now. You’re screwing with my plans.” She absently moved over by Raven, went into her pocketbook, and removed her wide tooth comb and a hair tie.
Raven leaned forward and let her comb his hair. This was the Morgana of old times. She expertly braided his hair and he pulled her on his lap when she was finished.
She buried her face into his shoulder suddenly. Her body was shaking as he held her. “Babe, what’s wrong?”
Finally, she spoke. “I’m anemic, and my blood pressure is too high, for starters. I need to have bed rest. I’m going to have to ask Lana to come take care of me and now you’re not in the cell. All my plans are going to shit. I can’t do anything right. I’m so tired and I want a nap. I’m not sure I can even grill the steaks. True, you might have to fix them. I have to eat better, too.”
The three men looked at each other and Raven pushed Morgana off of his lap. He picked her up carefully in his arms and she didn’t resist. “Morgana and I are going to have a talk and a nap. Keep Lana away from here, and I’m sure the two of you can fix steaks and salads.” He carried her to their bedroom with Morgana’s arms wrapped around his neck.
Gently, he removed her sandals and clothes. He pulled one of his oldest, softest t-shirts over her head before tucking her in the bed. He got right into bed next to her. “It will be fine. I’m here and I’ll be taking care of you. Your sister will
