chance to answer. They were gone before she even opened her mouth. She sighed and stood up, heading to the bathing room. Hopefully she would feel more like herself when she was clean and dressed.
    She showered and dressed and even though she knew she should, she didn’t feel like eating. She replenished her body fluids from the jug of juice which seemed to be permanently full on a table off to the side of the bedroom, near the glass doors. She stepped out into the garden, breathing deeply, inhaling the scents of flowers blooming. She found herself back at the fountain in the center of the garden, trying to come up with a way to gain her bond mates’ trust back. She knew the only real option was to demolish the wall she had built in her mind and reach out to them, but she didn’t know if she was quite ready or brave enough to do it. How long she sat there gathering her courage, she didn’t know. The sun had moved across the sky, and it looked to be in the middle of the afternoon. Surely she hadn’t been sitting there that long.

Chapter Ten

    Jess felt her body heating and presumed it was the effect of the sun’s rays, as they were now beating down upon her. But then she didn’t remember feeling so hot yesterday out in the sun. She squirmed in her seat, her thighs wet from the juices leaking from her pussy. The heat ratcheted up a notch and almost became too much to bear. She stood up and moved into the shade of a blue tree, the scent of its bloom calming her for a moment. A wave of heat swept through her body, and it was so intense she doubled over with the pain from it. Oh fuck, she had the bond-mating fever.Her mates had warned her of it, but she had thought they were only trying to get into her pants on a regular basis. She should have known better. Her mates had not lied to her once. She had betrayed their trust on so many levels. She didn’t know if she would be able to repair the damage.
    Jess stumbled to her feet, heading back to their room. She was so hot now, she felt as if her insides were on fire. She made it to the room and flopped down onto the bed, curling into herself to try and alleviate the pain. It didn’t do her a lick of good. She was in agony. She was writhing on the bed, the sheet beneath her and the material of her dress abrading her sensitive skin. She managed to pull the dress from her body and collapsed back onto the mattress. She could feel the perspiration rolling off her body and wanted to find a cold pool of water to immerse herself in. She sobbed out as a wave of heat rolled over her, making her bow off the bed in pain. She had no idea what to do. She needed help, and she needed it now.
    Jess turned within her own mind, trying to block out the excruciating fire so she could concentrate on removing her mental barrier. She began to demolish the wall one brick at a time, then gave up as pain shot through her organs. That way was taking way too long. She envisaged a sledge hammer slamming into the wall again and again, until all that was left was a pile of rubble. She thought of her three mates and projected her pain and fear out to them, having no idea if she’d succeeded in contacting them, in too much pain to follow the connection and keep it in place.
    She felt her body arch off the bed once more, then slam back down to the blessedly soft mattress beneath her. She cried out as she curled into herself, her body being consumed by sightless flames. She was so intent on riding out the waves of pain that she didn’t hear the door open and was totally unaware of her mates’ presence in the room until she felt the mattress dip. She was in agony.

    * * * *

    Hakon reached the bed before his brothers and looked on with despair as their mate’s body convulsed with pain as he stripped his clothes from his body. Jess in so much pain, was more than he could bear, and once he and his brothers were naked, they climbed onto the bed as one. Hakon reached for Jess’s legs and pulled them out straight
