Jeanette just so happened to want to crucify her. She hated Hershey’s presence in her home. Hershey threatened everything that Jeanette had lied and manipulated herself into over the years. Jeanette licked her lips. She didn’t think for a second about how creepy it was that she’d just watched Hershey’s most intimate moment from start to finish. She was bloodthirsty.
CHAPTER 6
That night, Jeanette and Brandon had slept in the same bed together. Brandon felt so different from the way he used had felt just a week or two ago, that he got cold chills down his spine every time he opened his eyes and saw the stranger spooning with him. Jeanette knew that Brandon felt distant, but she didn’t care. She would have him, whether he wanted her or not. Recognizing Hershey threat for what it was, she had devised complete plan of attack starting first thing in the morning. If that black bitch thinks that she can waltz up into my house and show me who’s boss. Jeanette thought. She’s got another thing coming…
Jeanette, Brandon, and Jason Boulder convened in the kitchen early the next morning. After a long silence Jeanette confronted Brandon about a concern that was nagging her. Of course, it was completely fabricated but Brandon wouldn’t know that. Brandon, somehow, was not surprised that Jeanette had something complaining about.
“Brando, I’ve been meaning to bring something up with you since last night. I thought that I’d give it a little bit of time to make sure that I was right…” Jeanette said, trying her hardest to act scared.
“What’s the matter, Jin?”
“When I came back from the museum yesterday, I came back to my room. The door was open, like someone had been in there. I was a little creeped out, so I snuck in slowly. I didn’t see anyone, but my things had been tampered with. Someone moved my stuff, Brando… The drawers weren’t closed the way I normally closed them, and my clothes were ransacked. And...” Jeanette waited for dramatic pause. “My 100-carat diamond ring was gone.”
Brandon started to frown because he knew what to say next. He knew that Jeanette would accuse Hershey of stealing the 100-carat ring, and she would campaign to have her fired like it was election season. Brandon, for once, saw Jeanette’s manipulation coming from a mile away. He knew that Hershey would have never taken that ring, because he had been with her the whole afternoon. Of course, he couldn’t exactly tell Jeanette that. Even though shopping for Jason’s things might sound like a reasonable excuse, Brandon would never be able to hide the emotion which lingered on his face, the tender feelings he had for the new apple of his eye: Hershey. Feeling stalemated, Brandon didn’t shut Jeanette’s bullshit down, instead, he grit his teeth and let her go on…
“Brandon, I know you don’t want to hear this… But I feel like I have no choice but to let you know… That new au pair girl. She stole it.”
Sigh. Now that Jeanette had placed her pawn on the chessboard, Brandon analyzed it to see which counter would waste the least time.
“Jeanette, how could you be sure? We have 23 people on staff at the Manor. How did you rule the rest of them out?”
“Because…” Jeanette said, as plunged her hand in her pocket and pulled out her 100-carat ring. “I found my ring in her quarters.”
Brandon threw his eyebrows up in genuine surprise. He didn’t see that plot twist coming. Then he looked at Jeanette with genuine disappointment. Is this how far she’d be willing to go to manipulate me? He’d never seen a full portrait of her wickedness before, and he was sincerely shaken. Brandon wondered what other lies and betrayal she might have already perpetrated with such bold two-facedness. Unfortunately, he still couldn’t reveal why he knew that she was lying.
“I think you’re wrong about this, Jeanette.”
Brandon had nothing more to say on
