already?”
They were both naked, both perfect specimens of the male form. She took in every inch of the men as the shadows and fire complemented all their toned muscles.
“Do you think Garret would let us forget? He’s searched for you every night since you disappeared without fail. Even when we had doubts, he never did.”
“I must see him.”
“I’m supposed to take Cassidy to his safe house. They’re to meet us there.” Patrick looked over at her, her body naked, the scent of sex in the air. “I take it you’ve met the girl.” Her cheeks heated.
“Ah, yes, the little human. She’s been entertaining me, and doing a smashing job at it.”
“She is something else.” They both turned to look at her now. She felt like a child being caught breaking the rules. Patrick’s cock hardened before her eyes. She realized he hadn’t been an active part of the ménage earlier, standing aside after giving her intense oral pleasure. He’d still be pent up, yearning for release.
“No love bite? Any reason for that?”
“She’s still innocent to our ways. Garret seems to think she should know everything before he administers it.”
Matthew shook his head in disapproval. “So he hasn’t changed in the past month, I see. Even I can see she’s the right choice for the pack.”
“Maybe he’ll think clearly now that his obsession with finding you can finally be put to rest.”
Miner talk always confused her. They didn’t speak like any city people she knew. Her trip to Climax had been an eye-opening experience thus far. She felt like an actress in a horror movie when all she wanted was a sweet little romance with a happily ever after. Perhaps Patrick was right and Garret would finally settle down now that Matthew had returned. She could only hope.
Chapter Eight
“Let’s wait until daybreak,” said Matthew. “I don’t want to run into the loggers’ hunting party. Not tonight.”
“You’ve lost so much weight, brother. It’s not a good look for you.”
Matthew shrugged. He’d eaten the rabbit he’d cooked since Cassidy refused to eat any. She contented herself on some wild berries he’d brought for her. “Captivity tends to do that to a man.”
Patrick had run into the Rockford wolf he’d been confined with, the one who set him free. If it wasn’t for that one kind act, he’d still be locked in a cage, waiting for the next time they set him loose on an innocent human. Guilt and shame for the things he’d done would haunt him forever, but those bastards had taunted and tortured him until all traces of humanity were gone. He barely remembered a thing, only random snapshots in his memories. Perhaps the drugs they’d given him were a saving grace.
His pack mate turned to face Cassidy. “I’m sorry for leaving you alone at the truck. I got so caught up in the chase that I lost track of time.”
“Matthew wouldn’t have found me if I hadn’t been wandering the woods alone, looking for you.”
He still remembered the moment he stumbled across her. She was beauty amongst the darkness, an angel sent to redeem him. He’d never wanted a mate until her. Now it was all he could think about.
Matthew crooked a finger, beckoning her to join them on the other side of the fire. She sat curled up, her knees to her chest, and her torn T-shirt over her as a makeshift blanket.
It had been so good to see Red again, a man he’d shared many a laugh with and even a few tears. They’d been through hell and back together. The reunion was so much sweeter than he’d imagined in his countless visions of this day while in captivity.
Cassidy got up and came around the leaping flames, sitting down in the space they’d cleared between them. “So, what do you think, Ms. Lyons? Would you be averse to adding me to your list of lovers?”
“I don’t have a list. Just four.” She crossed her arms, insulted.
“I didn’t mean it like that. You know what you have with my friends, and I want the same bond
