pushing Lisa out the front door, “But we have to get

back for Tucker now. It’s after eight and he’s been all alone since this afternoon.” As they crossed down a walkway that led to the guest house at the end of the

property, Frank and Greg both shouted, “Maybe we can do a rain check on the movie,

Jonathan.”

Jonathan looked back and smiled. “That sounds good, guys. Thanks again for a

great Thanksgiving.”

As it turned out, the lie about calling Mike in England came in handy when they

walked Noah and Lisa back to the guest house. They brought them to the door and Ed

said he had to leave. His excuse was he was getting up early to start sanding the second

floor, because the film crew was shooting on Friday. And Jonathan said he really did

have to get back to the hotel to call Mike. Lisa kissed them both goodnight, but she stared

at Ed and pressed her lips together. Ed had a feeling she was catching on to them, so he

stretched out his arms, yawned, and said, “I’m really exhausted and tomorrow is a busy

day. But we’ll all go out to dinner tomorrow night.” Then he hugged and kissed Noah and

walked back to his car.

Lisa smiled and said, “Sleep well.”

He waved her off and smiled. “I’ll try.”

When Ed returned to his house, he sat in the driveway waiting. Sure enough, a

few minutes later Jonathan’s rented car pulled up behind him. They both got out at the

same time. Jonathan crossed toward him and asked, “What’s up with this phone call to

Mike? I didn’t know you cared about whether or not I called Mike.”

Ed put his hands in his pockets and shrugged. “You knew I was lying and you still

backed me up.” “I didn’t want you to look bad,” Jonathan said. “You didn’t give me much of a

choice. I just don’t understand why you lied to them about me calling Mike.”

“I did that for your own good,” Ed said, leaning back against his car.

“And why is that?”

“Because those two only wanted to get you alone so they could get into your

pants,” Ed said. “I know what they were up to, and it wasn’t about watching a movie.”

“I’m not an idiot,” Jonathan said. “I knew what they were up to all day, especially

when Frank tried to put his hand down my pants in the kitchen while I was helping clear

the table.”

Ed clenched his fists. “He did that to you?” he said. “The guy is an asshole. It’s a

good thing I didn’t see that.”

Jonathan’s eyes grew wide. “Give me some credit, Ed. I had no intention of

watching a movie or doing anything else with them,” he said. “And besides, even if I did,

I don’t see how it’s any of your business. I don’t ask anything from you. We aren’t a

couple. For all I care you can go back and watch a movie with them yourself if you’d like.

I saw the way Frank kept staring at your crotch all day. I thought he was going to salt and

pepper your dick and serve it up as a course.”

Ed’s mouth opened. “He was staring at my crotch ?” Was Jonathan jealous?

“Like you didn’t notice,” Jonathan said. He folded his arms and stared down at his

shoes. “You loved every minute of the attention.”

Ed had no idea anyone had been staring at his crotch. He’d been too busy staring

at the way Jonathan’s ass looked in those tight black pants all day to notice. He spread

out his arms and shrugged. “I swear this is news to me. I had no idea.” “Ah well,” Jonathan said, “I guess I’d better go back to the hotel now and call

Mike. His ears must be ringing tonight. At least then I can go to sleep tonight knowing

I’m not a total liar.”

As Jonathan turned to leave, Ed grabbed his arm and pulled him into his body.

Then he held him at the small of the back with one hand, and the back of the head with

the other, and kissed him on the mouth.
